Programme Notes / Performance Details :

Entrata was commissioned as a high-energy concert opener for an education production produced in 1999. The work also looks to embrace an essence of Australia with its lyrical and harmonically broad writing, a feature of the lilting accompaniment of the middle section. The work opens with a rhythmic unison theme and moves straight into an energetic groove. The ostinati of both instruments build and weave together powerfully excitement heightened by the animated free spirit of the vibraphone. The floating middle section delivers a sense of the inspiring openness of the Australia ochre earth, blue sky, warm sea. The two instruments then engage in a display of keyboard fireworks; the vibraphone free to improvise over the marimbas captivating groove.
