This is an excellent transcription by Leigh Howard Stevens that requires a 4.5 octave instrument. It calls for many advanced techniques such as a double lateral roll and independent roll (one-handed). The first and third sections are almost identical, but the motor rhythm changes from 16ths to sextuplets. The middle section is a challenge due to range, style, and technical difficulties. This solo shows off some of the best qualities of the marimba.
