Originally from Gary, Indiana, Daniel McCloud earned his Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. During his time at Ball State, Daniel participated in a number of school ensembles and concurrently performed with the Muncie Symphony Orchestra and the Kokomo Park Band.

In 2001 Daniel was noted for his student leadership by serving as an Assistant Director of Bands-Marching Percussion Instructor during his final two years. Daniel earned his Master of Music from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in Instrumental Conducting, and is currently pursuing a doctorate degree in Percussion Performance at Ball State University.

Daniel has composed numerous works for orchestra, wind band, chamber ensembles and soloists. Previous commissions have come from PBS affiliate WIPB-TV, the World Saxophone Congress, various instrumental soloists and wind bands. Daniel is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Percussive Arts Society, ASCAP, and Music Educators National Conference.

Hottest Point of the Day is a duet for two marimbas. Inspired by the heat of a summer afternoon, this piece is enjoyable to play but offers plenty of mental and physical challenge. Primarily based in 11/8 and harmonically simple.
