I wouldn t agree with a 3 for this piece. I would give it a 5+, especially because of its 3rd movement. The third movement basically demands that the timpanist play a multi tone melody, which requires a fine ear training and crazy pedal changes. Also the piece requires a certain degree of speed which makes it even more difficult. The first movement is the most mellow, and it is also rather difficult. It is only in the second movement that one could say that the piece is not very difficult since it could even be sight-read. However, it requires pedaling mastery. A super interesting piece to play. Graduate recital material.
