Nebojsa Jovan Zivkovic

Hailed by the critics as one of the most unique and expressive marimba and percussion artists in the field today, Nebojsa Jovan Zivkovic has greatly influenced the international percussion scene during the last two decades – as both a masterful composer and virtuoso performer.  Despite his cosmopolitan lifestyle and attitude, Zivkovic has always preserved his “Slavic soul” which makes his compositions and performances a unique emotional experience.  Concert tours have led him throughout Europe, from Siberia to Spain, from Greece to Finland, repeatedly in Asia, and annually through Latin and North America.

His groundbreaking compositions for marimba and percussion have set new performing standards, and his captivating and energetic performances have influenced generations of marimbists. Many of Zivkovic’s compositions ( for example: Ilijas, Ultimatum1, Trio per uno ) have become popular standards in contemporary percussion repertoire world-wide. His symphonic works are performed by top orchestras, such as the: National Symphony Orchestra, Washington D.C.; BBC Concert Orchestra, London; Orchestra di Santa Cecilia, Rome; Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra; and The Northern Sinfonia in Newcastle, UK. In addition to his thrilling and challenging concert works, he has composed many pieces for younger players. In particular, the pedagogical compositions from his “FUNNY MALLETS SERIES” are among the world’s best sold works for mallet instruments.  With over three hundred performances of his works each year in so far over fifty countries world wide, Zivkovic is one of the most frequently performed composers of marimba and percussion music.

As a charismatic soloist, mostly with his own marimba and percussion concertos, Zivkovic has performed with the: Stuttgart Philharmonic; Munich Symphonic; Bochum Phiharmonic; Austrian Chamber Symphony; Hannover Radio Symphony; Bielefeld Philharmonic; Belgrade Philharmonic; Slovenian Philharmonic; Slovenian Radio Symphony Orchestra; National Orchestra of Costa Rica, Minnesota Orchestra; and many others. He has also performed in such prestigious venues as the Viennas “Konzerthaus”, National Recital Hall Taipei, and the Stockholms “Nybrokajen”. In addition to his composing and concert activities, he gives master classes and seminars in Europe, Asia, Mexico and regularly through the USA.

For over twenty years now Zivkovic has performed exclusively on YAMAHA MARIMBAS, since this is the instrument that perfectly fits all his needs, beside he is also using Zildjian Cymbals, Meinl percussion, Evans drumheads and Mapex concert toms/drums.  For more information on current projects, concert dates, compositions and CD’s, please visit:  www.zivkovic.de

About

Alfred Music Publishing is the worlds largest educational music publisher. Alfred produces educational, reference, pop, and performance materials for teachers, students, professionals, and hobbyists spanning every musical instrument, style, and difficulty level. Alfreds home office is located in Los Angeles with domestic offices in Miami and New York as well as offices around the world, including Australia, Germany, Singapore, and the United Kingdom.

In addition to its own titles, Alfred distributes products from over 50 companies, including Belwin, Daisy Rock Girl Guitars, Dover Publications, DW Drums, Faber Music, Highland/Etling, Kalmus, National Guitar Workshop, Penguin, TASCAM, Ultimate Support, and WEA.

History

Alfred Music Publishing was founded in New York, in 1922, by composer and musician Alfred Piantodosi. His modest Tin Pan Alley pop song catalog included such hits as Waiting for the Robert E. Lee and Ragtime Cowboy Joesongs that still generate revenue for the company today.

In 1928, the company was bought by Sam Manus, a violinist who provided background music for silent films. Sams son, Morty, and Mortys wife, Iris, began working for the company during the 1950s. Inspired by the need for quality music education products, Morty, a clarinetist and pianist, oversaw the development of an instructional series for accordion, followed by books for guitar, piano, and recorder.

Alfred developed significantly over the next decade and eventually outgrew its New York headquarters. In 1975, the main office was relocated to Los Angeles, and the distribution center was moved to upstate New York. Sharing their fathers vision, Mortys sons Steven and Ron joined the company in the 1980s. While continuing to develop the worlds leading instructional methods and performance music, they also expanded Alfred into the international market by establishing branches in Australia, Germany, Singapore, and the United Kingdom.

In 2005, Alfred purchased Warner Bros. Publications, acquiring the rights to Warner/Chappell Music, Inc. and the EMI Catalogue Partnership. Through this deal, Alfred gained the print rights of legendary publishers such as M. Witmark & Sons, Remick Music Corp., and T.B. Harms, Inc. Among the EMI holdings are the Robbins and Leo Feist catalogs, plus film music from United Artists, MGM, and 20th Century Fox.

As of 2010, Alfreds catalog includes over 90,000 currently active titles representing a wide range of well-known publicationsfrom methods such as Alfreds Basic Guitar, Alfreds Basic Piano Library, Premier Piano Course, Sound Innovations, and Suzuki, to artists like Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Van Halen, Green Day, Michael Jackson, Sheryl Crow, Eagles, Cole Porter, and George & Ira Gershwin, and brand names such as Star Wars, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Rolling Stone, and Billboard.

Now in its third generation of Manus family leadership, Alfred is led by CEO Ron Manus and backed by a talented management team in seven offices worldwide. Under Rons leadership, Alfred has continued to expand, acquiring rights to ABKCO, S-1, Warner Bros. Studios, and establishing distribution deals with TASCAM, Mighty Bright, Ultimate Support, and others. Alongside this growth, Rons forward-thinking has lead to the recent announcement of the first-ever customizable instrumental methods Sound Innovations for Concert Band and Sound Innovations for String Orchestra, and his passion for protecting the environment has driven the company to begin printing books on 100% recycled paper.

Written for five timpani, this challenging piece showcases the musical aspects of the instrument. Although rhythmically demanding, the composer never exploits the instrument`s technical capabilities at the expense of the music. A recital-quality piece which will undoubtedly receive instant acceptence.
