Written for the Blackearth Percussion Group. "Happy Apples" are children`s toys manufactured by Fisher-Price Toys; they are plastic apples with small bells inside that ring when the toy is shaken. Detailed performance instructions for how to play Happy Apples and mallet selection are provided. Performance instructions are given in order to obtain a crescendo on the ratchets by bending back the slats so they do not touch the teeth of the cog. The crescendo is obtained by gradually releasing the slats.
