Composer / Arranger : Ridley, Stephen
Composer / Arranger Details:

Stephen Ridley is a composer and orchestrator based in Los Angeles. He received his Masters in Music Composition from UCLA, where he was a student of the late Jerry Goldsmith. Stephen’s most recent work, Symphony for Percussion, is a large- scale work for percussion orchestra and electronics, through which he is attempting to define a new kind of symphony orchestra for a new kind of audience.
In 2010, Stephen was selected to participate in BMI’s ‘Composing for the Screen’ seminar in New York, and was hired to underscore ABC’s Academy Awards Promo campaign, a project which was helmed by director John Singleton. Shortly thereaf- ter, he was offered his first feature film as lead composer: A Perfect Ending, di- rected by Nicole Conn.

Other film industry highlights include a large orchestral score for the short film par- ody `The Sharktank Redemption`, which aired on HBO networks and is part of the special edition DVD release of `The Shawshank Redemption`. After cutting his teeth on various student and short films, he served as a pre-production music consultant and supervisor on `Stranger Than Fiction` in 2005, and on a similar project still in development at MGM.

Stephen is also very active in the world of concert and academic music. His concert works for percussion are published and distributed by C. Alan Music Press. His ex- perimental work `Animism for Prepared Timpani and Playback` (1995) has enjoyed many performances, both domestic and international. Other works have been per- formed at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Festival, and the PASIC percussion con- ventions. His work `Chamber-ism` (1998) was given multiple performances by the Santa Barbara based chamber ensemble Camerata Pacifica, in conjunction with ac- claimed marimbist Robert Van Sice.

Stephen has also previously worked for Apple, Inc. as an instructor of the Garage Band and Logic Pro music applications; for UCLA as a music theory teaching assis- tant; and for Camerata Pacifica, the respected and innovative chamber music en- semble based in Santa Barbara.
