One of the Standard works for percussion. Uses different areas of the head, different implements, different compinations to produce different timbres. There are excellent symbols for notation. Both parts are difficult in execution and ensemble. Extensive stick changes, meter changes and syncopation. This is a standard of the flute and percussion literature. There is a lot of interplay between the muti-percussion and flute. The first movement is extreemly difficult to bring together as an ensemble. The second movement sounds free of time but is actually in strict tempo. The third movement segues from the second and is the most technically challenging. There is passages that require much independence. The fourth movement is the most difficult for the flute. The entire piece is flashy for the percussionist.
