Composer / Arranger Details: Alexej Gerassimez was born into a family of musicians in Essen in 1987. At the age of five he started to learn piano and began studying percussion two years later. From 2000 to 2004, he studied with Christian Roderburg at the Cologne University of Music. Then he was teached by Li Biao, Rainer Seegers and Franz Schindlbeck. In 2008 Alexej moved to Munich where he currently studies percussion with Peter Sadlo at the University of Music and Theater.

Alexej has won numerous awards in national and international competitions. He was placed first at the "International Marimba Festi-val" in Nürnberg, the "European Union Competi-tion of Youth" for Marimba and four times with highest number of points at the national music competition "Jugend musiziert" in the category solo percussion.

When listening to the beautiful choral by Nikolai Kedrov, Sr. "Otche Nash" (the Lords Prayer), I instantly started to develop the idea to compose a piece influenced by this choral. I started to play the beginning on a marimba and tried to let the instrument "sing".

The first six bars are based on the harmonies by Kedrov.

The excerpt from J.W. Goethes Egmont "Now shouting in triumph, Now sunk in despair" crossed my mind while I wrote the music. The title "Eravieb
