Composer / Arranger : Gershwin, George/Brice,Tim
Composer / Arranger Details: Tim Brice is a pianist, organist, composer and arranger and studied music at Cardiff University. His first serious composition was a service setting of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis which was performed at Magdalen College, Oxford in 1997 whilst he was still as school. His second setting wasn’t so traditional, incorporating jazz harmonies, but it was successfully performed in 2003 at Wells Cathedral. In other genres he has written and had performed a series of songs for soprano and piano and Three Piano Preludes which were inspired by Gershwin’s preludes. His most enjoyable work was six vocal big band and small orchestra arrangements of Lennon & McCartney pieces for a concert by Wells Cathedral School in 2003 and the following year students performed a short untuned piece for four percussionists. This inspired him to compose a Concerto for Marimba and Vibraphone with string ensemble and 3 percussionists which was premiered by Katy Elman at Chetham’s School of Music, Manchester in 2006 He has recently been asked to arrange and orchestrate a medley of Beatles hits and an arrangement of Beethoven’s ‘Ode to Joy’ for a children’s choir concert at the Royal Festival Hall by East End Opera and commissioned to write a concert opening fanfare for a vocal octet and percussion by the Concordia Foundation to be performed at the Queen Elizabeth Hall.
