Programme Notes / Performance Details :

"Kumi II" is the second of a series of Taiko Drum Impressions by American composer Ryan R. Laney. The piece is written with open-ended instrumentation, calling only for Small Drum (bongo, snare drum with snares off, small tom, etc.), Medium Drum (concert tom, field drum with snares off, high marching bass drum), and Large Drum (generally a concert bass drum or very deep marching bass drum). The piece can technically be performed with as few as 3 percussionists, although at least 5 is recommended. The maximum number of players is only limited by the number of players and drums you have! Program notes on this are included. Rhythms are fairly simple in a quick, cut-time feel. Lots of room for interpretation and improvisation.
