In Greek mythology, Elysium is the heavenly place of the hereafter. This work is dedicated to the composers father who passed on from cancer. But, far from being a sad piece this is a work to celebrate life. Opening with the haunting sound of a solo marimba and building to an enriching climax with full ensemble representing the wonders of life. The introduction of the vibraphone towards the end is a beautiful representation of church bells tolling amidst the harmony of life. There to remind us of an end that will come, but to enjoy what we have while we have it. A complete recording of this work can be found on the REVOLUTIONS CD, available from www.rhythmscape.com.au.
