Of all Elgar`s musical output this variation is without doubt one of his most lyrical and loved works. Nimrod is beautifully arranged to feature the mellow, haunting sound of the marimba and allow the players room to express in music what words can never achieve. Throughout history, composers have studied, copied out and arranged the scores of venerated elders in the hope of absorbing (as if by osmosis) what it is that makes great music. It was from this humble beginning that the arranger took to this emotion-charged movement from Elgars famous set of variations. Utmost in the arrangers mind was ensuring meticulous dedication to the original score and the creation of a work that highlights the immense power and lyricism capable of being expressed by tuned percussion instruments.
