LULLABY FOR MARIMBA

Piece Title : Lullaby for Marimba

Programme Notes / Performance Details :

Lullabys contemplative mood, which exploits the rich sonorities of the marimba, contrasts nicely with other marimba repertoire that often accentuates the percussive qualities of the instrument. Lullaby is inspired by the organ-like timbre of the marimba. The work was composed for karak percussion and is dedicated to friends of the composer as a special work to celebrate their wedding. Lullaby exploits the beautiful sonorities of the Marimba to allow the listener a time of reflection, inner thought and the creation of images. Lullaby can be played as a duet (using a Low C marimba) or as a solo for Marimba (Low A). A complete recording of this work can be found on the REVOLUTIONS CD, available from www.rhythmscape.com.au.

Extra Performance Notes: This piece can be performed by one OR two players.B If played with two players the parts become two mallets per player.B Whilst written for a 5 Octave Marimba, the work contains options for performance on a 4 1/3 Octave Marimba.B (Low A)
