SET A TRAP

Piece Title : Set a Trap

Programme Notes / Performance Details :

B

This 8-10 minute long solo was composed for a small set up of instruments similar to drum set/ traps set of instruments. The opening is energetic with a quick comotion, usingB B many meter changes, creatingB a semi improvisatory character. The basic theme is a combinationB of 5/8 &B B 6/8 measures.B This leads to a quiet section in which one hand continuously rolls (first on a cymbal and later on the Triangle)while the other oneB plays a subdued 6/8B Siciliana like rhythm with a wire brush. This section, having served as a breather of sorts,B gradually fades out bringing forth a comlpex cannon played with both hands, one against the other (each using a different mallet/stick so as to create different "voices").

B

The texture becomes thicker and the section ends with a quick accelerando which, in a burst, brings forth the final part of the piece , a bright virtuosic coda , mostly in a quick 7/8 with 2/4 inserts. The fast, breathless pace isB gradually slowed down via use of a series of counter rhythms until a complete, loud, grandioseB halt of the commotion.
